Even if you don’t know it, you’ve probably used a Huawei device. Now the Chinese company is hoping you’ll know when you use their products, launching the brand officially in Australia.
Kind of like HTC was an OEM manufacturer before they launched direct to the consumer a few years ago, Huawei is hoping to steal some mindshare when it comes to their product categories. According to the Head of Devices Marketing at Huawei Australia in the press release, “More than half of all Australians are already using Huawei’s products, including mobile phones, tablets and wireless dongles, which are customised and rebadged by the operator”.
Among the new products heading to Australian shelves under the Huawei brand are the IDEOS Android smartphones and the S7 tablet (which you might recognise as the T-Touch Tab).
It will be interesting to see if Huawei has the same level of success as HTC in launching as a consumer brand…

Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at 3:18 PMI have the latest Allphones catalogue, their name is misspelt as ‘Hauwei’. They make some good devices though, Huawei IDEOS is a great little phone for $159 prepaid.

Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at 3:27 PMIt’s pronounced “Waa-wee”, and we’ve had them as a brand here in Canada for over 12 months now. I have a basic handset (U1250), and I must say it is better built than the cheap Nokia (1610) I had before it.
We have had some cheap Android handsets available (at around $150 outright) for a few months now, and they seem to get decent reviews for what they are.
http://shop.windmobile.ca/ProductCatalog/Handsets/ if anyone is interested in what we have here in Canada.

Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at 6:54 PMHi Dale, I have that very model from Dicksmith $199 unlocked. The good bits
1. Android 2.2 lets you make the phone a WiFi hub
2. The size is perfectly handy
3. The radio works very well
The not so good points
1. The Camera is crappy
2. There is no BlueTooth connectivity
3. The price seems a bit bloated coz for $199, Optus is offering the Nuvi GPS phone with slightly better specs. You will need phone+data plans anyways, so why not a locked phone that gets unlocked easily (unlike Vodafone or Telstra that *Charge* for unlocking)
I am happy with the phone as I use it for development, I feel that the phone would be better at $125 than $199
The Telstra T-Tab or the S7 is a good display but crappy battery life device and the touch screen is just unworkable.
cheers,
J

Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at 6:57 PM…and I forgot, the T-Tab can and plays angry birds quite well, the smaller one is unable to play Angry Birds. Quite a few apps fail to work on the device.
However said, Labyrinth plays very well on this small one and on the S7, the accelerometers are wraped, if you hold the device down, the ball goes up against gravity and funny things like that.
cheers,
J

Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at 10:06 PMHuawei takes care of all the customer suggesstions & comes up with new products. Dont compare HTC & Huawei.
Even if Huawei doesn’t enter the consumer market directly, it is in-directly used world wide.
I am sure Huawei will do wonders in the consumer market. Looking forward to buy the new Huawei M750.

Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at 10:08 PMHuawei provides excellent customer support. May be the HTC technical support staff should get some training from Huawei People.
