A Dutch 16-year-old (and LOIC gunner) has been detained in the Netherlands for his connection to the pro-WikiLeaks takedowns of MasterCard, Visa and PayPal. The teen is currently undergoing interrogation by the Dutch High Tech Crime Team.
In addition to his arrest, the kid’s computers have been seized, and PC World reports he’s already confessed to taking part in the highly effective DDoS assaults, aimed (so far) mainly at financial institutions that have blocked donations to WikiLeaks. We do not expect this to be the first teen to wind up cuffed for taking part in the 4Chan raids. [PC World]

Friday, December 10, 2010 at 2:51 PMUnfortunately most of the 4chan kids use scripts that are downloaded from sites. They aren’t necessarily DDoSing on purpose. They are mostly idiots.

This is what happens.

Friday, December 10, 2010 at 4:30 PMWikileaks is the darling of internet vigilantes, how does arresting this kid help anyone? The world’s no safer with a 16 year old 4chan nerd behind bars, and there will be 10 to take his place, as well as more outrage towards ‘The Man.’

Sunday, December 12, 2010 at 2:34 AMObviously just a scare tactic. “Currently undergoing interrogation” is a joke, the whole phrase smacks of hype and fear-mongering. What would a Dutch 4channer know about anything? Seizing his computer is glamourous and criminal and thrilling, but seriously… All the kid did was run an IRC channel and ddos a few websites yeah?
This isn’t a story about Wikileaks, or hacking, or even Visa/Mastercard being denied of service. The whole thing is a joke, totally blown out of proportion. Now all the kids will fret that their mums might find out they look at bewbs on /b/.
