Sony Ericsson X10 and X10 Mini owners have been long suffering using the crappy old 1.6 versions of Android, but Vodafone tweeted this morning that they are planning to roll out an update to 2.1 Eclair late in December. Of course, who knows whether it will actually happen or not, given the delays other Telcos have experienced with Android updates. Also – Why no Froyo, Voda? That’s just crappy! Thursday, November 18, 2010 at 12:15 PMSOME Aussie X10, mini and mini pro owners have had Eclair for a few weeks now – Telstra and Vodafone are just slow to add their bloatware and approve the update.
I have had 2.1 on my mini pro (global firmware but with Optus bloatware) for a couple of weeks now.

Friday, November 19, 2010 at 9:40 AMHi,
How did you get the Android 2.1 on your mini pro? i got the mini with Optus prepaid but everytime i try it says no update. Does it make a difference if i use the phone with a vodafone sim card? becuase when i change to optus sim it makes no difference.
What were the steps you took? i tried the latest PC Campanion and Update services and it doesnt work
Thank You

Thursday, November 18, 2010 at 3:19 PMgood point actually.
just always preferred the galaxy s hardware to the nexus.
I suppose if the next nexus is based of the galaxy S… that WILL be tempting!

Thursday, November 18, 2010 at 12:59 PMLooks like it’s time to root the phone, update to Global and get 2.1 now…
Or sell it…
Bah.
Oh, and don’t blame Vodafone for no Froyo – that was Sony Ericsson’s clever decision.

Thursday, November 18, 2010 at 1:04 PMNo Froyo isn’t Vodafone’s fault, but SE’s. SE are trying the tactic of getting their customers to update their phones, rather than SE updating their Android firmware and only succeeding in alienating their customers and handing sales to HTC and Samsung.

Thursday, November 18, 2010 at 1:28 PMI’ve now had both a HTC and Samsung handset… The only thing i have learnt from this is if you actually want timely updates without relying on the lads and ladettes over at XDA, buy a gogle developer handset.
My next phone will probably be the Nexus S if it proves to be a developer phone.

Thursday, November 18, 2010 at 6:30 PMJust wait a few more days til the team at XDA get their vanilla 2.1 and 2.2 out, just a couple of bugs to fix
