A Teacher Tried To Ban Pencils And Pens In School

Wendy Scott, a teacher of at North Brookfield Elementary School in Massachusetts, tried to ban pencils and pens in her classroom. It’s completely ridiculous because you sorta need them to do schoolwork and because it’s just a freaking pencil and pen.

The crazy teacher’s memo to her students’ parent stated:

Students would no longer be allowed to bring writing implements to school. It said pencils would be provided for students in class and any students caught with pencils or pens after Nov. 15 would face disciplinary action for having materials “to build weapons.”

I remember being pretty proud of my pencils, pens and pencil cases as a kid. I don’t remember ever “building weapons” with them (but with kids these days, who knows!). All I know is that there are much more dangerous items in a classroom than a measly pencil or pen. Like, uh, staplers. And don’t even get me started on paper cutters.

The Massachusetts school district is rightfully distancing itself away from this rogue teacher, saying she never got permission to enforce this ridiculous demand. I’m just wondering what the hell was going on in her head, what’s the difference between pencils and pens students bring from home and the one she’d have to supply? Some people are just too damn silly. [News Blaze via Geekosystem]

I remember the felt colouring pens I had that connected to each other. Me and friends would pretend to play guns and stuff…in 3rd year. This chick is crazy.

Same here, had a metric-tonne of felt tip connector textas that I would join together, to create structures and weapons.
But those were the days where you were allowed to be a kid and have fun.

Sadly that time seems to have vanished away from the Earth :(

This seems to be fair – remember, kids can use the pencils to poke out each other’s eyes!

I say that this is not going far enough; We need to ban EVERYTHING!

    1) Kids must be fully shaven with no hair (they could stuff it down someone’s mouth and choke them

    2) Kids must not wear any form of clothing (for the same reason as above + they could use a jumper to tie another student up

    3) Kids must not interact with other children (a strong plastic cell will be provided for each child to prevent interaction, at no charge to you)

    4) Children will not be allowed to touch anything (for fear that they might harm themselves) all work will be done via a voice interaction system)

I look forward to this world :)

Voice interaction?! It’s monsters like you that are causing children to strain their delicate larynges.

That said, I remember a rubber-band-propelled pencil or two, from my days in primary school.

At first I thought this was another case of people shoe-horning iPads into institutions they’re currently ill-equipped for.

But this woman’s just paranoid/batshit crazy. I’m surprised it happened in Massachusetts at all, it’s been over a decade since Columbine, and we’re also talking about primary school kids.

If a pecil is a weapon, then I guess a pencil box would be a WMD (Weapon of Mass Destruction).
