Not only could Leatherbound.me help owners of different eReaders decide which store to download from (err, all one of you out there), but it could actually help decide which eReader to buy. Most potential buyers should have some idea of the books they’d like to download first, so knowing which platforms they’re on will be the deciding factor. From my brief play with the site, it’s obviously the Kindle, but I’m sure you’ve got better taste than me… [Leatherbound.me via CrunchGear]

Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at 1:31 PMThis is pretty smart. I know that using Amazon’s ebook store is a nightmare. Because all these classics are now public domain (and thus free), pretty much every Kindle owner has been mass-downloading them for no other reason than their being $0.0
What this means is that the ‘Bestseller” lists are jammed full of things people download because they can but have no intention of reading. War and Peace? In my whole life, I’ve never met anyone who’s actually read so much as a chapter from War and Peace.
This makes it extremely difficult to look for actually relevant books that you might want. The market is dominated by Public Domain classics and Twilight bestsellers. It’s impossible to find something serendipitously (as you might in a used bookstore), and you won’t find something which isn’t a classic/twilight unless you’re actively trying.
