Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 1:11 PMWTF is with the 129$ cap?
One Word
Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 3:48 PMOne word: Telstra.

Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 4:53 PMOr maybe, LG are dreaming with their prices. Expect to see this one drop in price dramatically when they find out how much everyone else is charging.
Who’s going to want a QWERTY keyboard so much that they’re going to come up with an extra $80/month over the cost of the Mozart at $50/month?
Daniel Weaver-Koenigs
Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 5:12 PMAfter suffering through a year on contract until I went through the TIO to get out, I’d of happily paid $129 for an unlimited cap on Telstra rather than the $100 unlimited cap I was on with Optus.
Dropped call after dropped call which Optus blamed on my phone which has no issues on Telstra.

Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 1:12 PMInteresting choices.. although I would rather have wanted the Samsung Focus, any idea on when that comes out?
Or Dell Virtual Pro (Lightning)

Monday, October 18, 2010 at 7:05 PMI agree, i want the dell! portrait slide is sooooooo cooolios!

Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 1:31 PMI thought the windows 7 mobiles were going to be somewhat of competition for the iPhone 4..i was wrong..all of these phone manufactures think just because they put a 1ghz processor and some more RAM they would beat the iPhone…better luck next time windows,HTC,samsung and LG.
brad
Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 3:27 PMyeah, the iPhone is hard to compete with. it’s odd because there are some really good phones out there right now but they just don’t cut it. i went from a 3GS to a samsung galaxy s and tried to like it but just couldnt do it. so, now i am using an iphone 4.

Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 4:30 PMEr…they should all work well as a telephone which I think…er…is the primary function.
Robert
Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 11:13 PMIf all you wanted was to make phone calls then you should just get a Nokia. These are obviously more than that so they need to be compelling enough to compete with similarly classed phones (such as the iphone).
Stefan
Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 4:39 PMyour reasons are?
klaw
Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 5:01 PMI don’t think anyone’s expecting them to “beat” iPhone right out of the gate. They have a long way to go in getting a good app library and building some momentum in the market.
The hardware is definitely competitive and the software previews I’ve seen have been quite positive. Overall, most of these will probably be very good handsets.
Of course, there will be plenty of people who will write these devices off because they’re not endorsed by Lord Jobs, but WP7 does have some compelling features, particularly Zune Pass and XBox integration. The Office and email functions will likely be excellent as well.
I guess now we have to wait and see if they have enough “wow” factor to gain some corporate and consumer mindshare. Bring on the reviews!

Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 5:17 PMThe OS is much better irrelevent to the hardware. Apple will be having a good hard look at themselves now that their OS has become an old fashioned antique.

Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 5:46 PMNick why do you think WP7 handsets are missing?
I am sure you can stick a rubber band around one for that iphone look!

Monday, May 2, 2011 at 10:52 AMwp7′s competition to the iPhone is not simply based on hardware. Having owned both the iPhone 4 and HTC Mozart I can tell you that the Windows Phone OS is much smoother and more pleasing to the eye. The list of games and apps is slowly building with both original and multiplatform games being added to the marketplace every day. So in reality, the wp7 offers much competition to the iPhone and android devices. It’s really all about your personal preference, I would go with the wp7.

Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 1:39 PMAny mention of Three also selling the Trophy?
Don
Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 1:40 PMHow about the other carriers?
3?
Virgin?
Nathan Holmes
Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 8:30 PM3 is merging in to Vodafone, no one gives a shit about Virgin.
Michael
Friday, September 30, 2011 at 12:11 PMhaha so true. Who is even on Virgin? LOL
Nicole
Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 1:54 PMI’d definitely like to see it on more HTC phones. Maybe even the Motorola Milestone?
Rakesh > nothing wrong with the $129 cap. I’d rather pay off the phone as much as I can, as soon as I can, while getting a lot of data (which I’m sure the cap will give), calls, txt, etc. in return.
Jubbin > do you mean the Dell Venue Pro?
Jubbin Grewal
Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 4:06 PMWhoo’s yea Nicole, meant Venue Pro.. wasn’t thinking.
DazzaS – Yes but this is different, the OS can be upgraded within the phone, like iphones and Android (selected models).
I want the Samsung Focus more and more now..
DazzaS
Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 1:55 PMNice line up, but take a look at the history of win mobile handsets.. On goning support is very poor.. Basicly software support runs out when the next model is release 3 to 6 months..
DAWOOKIE
Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 5:40 PMI think people have missed a big point with these phones. MS updates the OS not the carriers so no waiting on carriers to certify. I am sure there will be some restriction that up to 7.5 it will run on a 1ghz with 500mb memory but if you wanna run 7.6 they recommend 1.5ghz with 1gb memory … or something like that.
Sourcing this kind of time line would be interesting but like apple this information would be kept very tight to there chest so as not to gauge current sales.

Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 2:03 PMNo Focus, No Lightning and no HD7… bah :(
Simon Reidy
Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 3:54 PMExactly. The HD7 and Lightning are the only WM7 handsets that have really caught my interest. Especially the lightning with it’s unique form factor. Hopefully we’ll get them (or equivalent models) later on.

Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 2:21 PMSo in my three-way battle for a new phone while moving to Telstra for reception. The $49 plan gives me the HTC Desire, or this HTC Mozart (which I dig), or the iPhone 4 (+$149 upfront)…
I gotta say after the demo videos today I am edging toward WP7 on the Mozart… Who needs Cut and Paste right?

Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 5:51 PMWell, I think I can do without copy and paste for a month or two. Sometimes I think that C&P is such an obvious feature, that they only left it out to demostrate their live over the air update facility.
JohnyWalker
Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 7:52 PMEven if you don’t need Copy/Paste, it’s coming early 2011. Announced during the live event.

Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 4:05 PMI just can’t get excited about all this. I think I have Smartphone Fatigue.

Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 4:20 PMI have to say I’m not to fond of more and more carriers getting exclusive rights to a phone here in Aus

Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 4:26 PMwhat about bloatware?
blueevo
Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 5:29 PMI cant wait to try one out in a shop. but im on a plan for another several months should be in time for the HD7. Im definetely liking Win phone 7 at the moment. no multitasking at the moment is the only turnoff.

Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 7:30 PMGiven the delay of the white iphone I’m sad to see that they are all black. Also, where’s a smaller handset for those of us with good eyes?

Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 7:45 PM@Nick you do realize the Galaxy s android has 16gb *with* micro sd also has a GPU which draws 90 million Triangles compared to iPhone 4 which barely does 28 Million Triangles (meaning no slowdown in games) Adobe Flash support try looking at web pages on your iPhone 4 also has a beautiful Super Amoled screen I can customize my Galaxy S unlike iPhone 4, Front camera for video calling 1.3Mpx vs VGA on iPhone lol yes VGA I could go on & on only to say the only reason you would buy an iPhone 4 over a Samsung Galaxy s is if your a fanboy btw check this youtube out it describes the inbred mentality of ppl with there iphone 4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gdw0IbnIFis Btw I did own a 3GS but when something better came I got it !!!
Johnd
Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 8:26 PMApparently that “something better” doesn’t include a return key.

Android will go the way of WinMo: too many branches, too many hardware variations, too many apps that dont work on your phone.
What apps do android offer that actually use all those polygons? And is the same app available for the slowest of android phones? In the same quality? Is it cheaper for phones that have poorer capabilities?
After years of putting up with Windows Mobile, and watching Apple show how its done, its amazing to watch Google make all the same mistakes Microsoft did over the last 7 years.
Windows Phone and iPhone will become the the top two, Windows for the same reason as iPhone:
Stuff will work on all phones well.

Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at 2:14 AMbasically… what I was going to say.
when you cool down from all the hype over wp7, the galaxy S is better, and cheaper than all of these. to be honest, I’m really surprised to see that that Samsung didn’t bring the same galaxy s platform to WP7.
all using snapdragon? if I were to hazard a guess, I would say its because of MS trying to muscle DirectX and DXT into the smartphone hardware. bet they didn’t even consider trying to integrate with openGL… typical Microsoft… their way or the highway.
oh, and P.S., the iphone 4 would s**t all over these too. not to mention that it too is (and I never thought I’d say this) better priced.

Thursday, October 21, 2010 at 1:17 PMI upgraded from a 3Gs to a galaxy s and wasn’t completely happy…until I upgraded it to 2.2 which made all the difference. That said I’m drawn to the wp7 interface…waiting for a duel boot hack to come through given the omnia similarity. NB most of the WP7 phones lack expansion slots.
Go Galaxy S…it killed the iphone.

Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at 6:58 AMWhere’s the good camera? Still leaning towards Nokia N8 despite the Symbian syndrome, Hoping some better hardware comes out to save me before xmas!
Sheeds
Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at 7:42 PMSteve – the Mozart has an 8MP camera and Xenon flash. Are there many smart phones better than that out there ?
Kwad_Kore
Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at 3:50 PMAnyone know if Telstra are getting the HTC 7 Pro? I want the slide out keyboard. I don’t really like the look of the LG Optimus and the keyboard on that is uncomfortable for me to use.
I know Sprint in the US and some UK carriers are getting it but no one seems to know about the land of OZ. :P
Pity
Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at 4:52 PMI have had a HTC Mozart with 16GB storage for several months now, Camera software is crap compared to the Iphone, app store is building steadily, needs tomtom to develop software for this platform, heard they are not interested, Bing maps are very ordinary, battery life was disappointing, but purchased a Mugen Power 1800 mAh aftermarket one, now it will last between 1 1/2 to 2 days instead of one day
