Telstra’s Ultimate USB Modem Now Available For Everybody

Gizmodo AU

Telstra’s just released their previously business-only Ultimate USB modem to the masses, along with a couple of new data plans.

On a 24 month contract, you can grab the USB modem with a theoretical maximum download speed of 42Mbps along with 7GB of data every month for $60, or if you’re a data fiend, you can get the modem plus 12GB a month for $90.

Gus over at Lifehacker reviewed the device across the country – probably more comprehensively than anyone outside of Telstra themselves – and found that the network was impressive in its scope, but often struggled to reach those lofty theoretical speeds. Of course, if you’ve ever used any form of mobile data, you probably already know this

    I can’t see an option for pre-paid mobile broadband…

I don’t want a 24 month contract or month by month expenses.

I would like a pre-paid deal with 6 months to use my 4-10 GB, Optus do it. But Telstra have faster and better options in the area, but only on contract it seems?????

Those prices are only if you have a full service telstra home phone and either foxtel, a mobile or broadband with Telstra. Its $59.95 a month for 7Gb without those

The pre-paid plan we are using is this one http://www.telstra.com.au/bigpond-internet/mobile-broadband/prepaid/get-started/index.htm

We paid $150 for 4Gb over 6 months. Get the turbo modem, it’s not as fast as the one in this article, but you’re likely to get equal performance in most places.

This is the biggest waste of time and has killed three security settings on my machines. No help from Telstra on this product. Using a windows XP machine it has killed my connectivity when using a wired LAN connection at work.
