Only 3% Have Opted Out Of Street View Despite Lawsuit Threats

Talk about making a mountain out of a molehill. After rioting over Google Street View cars accidentally capturing Wi-Fi network details, less than 3 per cent of Germans actually chose to opt out of having their houses on Street View.

That number equates to 244,237 requests from the 8,458,084 houses that were photographed for Street View, with Google giving Germans the option to ban their houses from the service from April of this year. Privacy is obviously a large reason why people don’t want their houses shown on Street View, even though you can still see them if you walk or drive down the road yourself, but presumably the backlash over Google Street View cars accidentally capturing Wi-Fi network details was concern enough for people to not want their abodes on the site.

This week, Google promised it would not collect Wi-Fi network details through its cars again. [Reuters]

Thats a weak conclusion to reach Kat. How many poeple do you think would have OPTED IN if they worked it that way – I’m guessing much much much less then 250,000

    250,000 families is A LOT!
especially considering its just about having a 6 month old static image of your house on the net…

as for the wifi stuff… those 3% could (And should) just secure their network…

Yep. This is a large figure for such a large population.

I concur with the other comments. 3% of the population doing anything is massive.
