Memey treachery! Viral video legend Isaiah Mustafa appears in a new video, where he not-so-subtly alludes to the Windows Phone 7 launch and an apparent ad campaign starring himself. I always thought advertising was a loyal business – how disillusioning.
While we will always be big fans of our pal Isaiah for so kindly answering our tech query back in the Old Spice glory days, we wonder whether he’ll be able to recapture the magic of his previous, heavily scented tenure. Is Windows Phone 7 sexy enough? Can he capture our hearts, and our libidos, with a tile-based interface? We have a feeling he’ll find a way – and it will probably involve him ripping his shirt off a lot and an ice cream cone filled with rubies or something.
UPDATE: Just had this official statement from Microsoft:
“Isaiah Mustafa is coming to Australia for the launch of Windows Phone 7 at retail. He will be involved in a mix of broadcast, radio, print and digital outreach while down under.”
So yes, he will be promoting Windows Phone 7 in Australia. But unlikely in the role of the Old Spice Guy…

This is no more betrayal than James Earl Jones making Mufasa sound like Darth Vader.
Isaiah has a distinctive voice and manner of speaking. Sure, it sounds similar to his Old Spice ads, but I’ll bet any voiceover he did would sound the same.
