Nintendo Loses Money For The First Time In Seven Years

Thanks to nosediving DS sales, which fell from 11.7 million a year ago to 6.69 million this year, and slowing Wii sales, down from 5.75 million to 4.97 million over the last six months, and a strong yen, Nintendo’s posted its first half-year loss in seven years. That’s pretty crazy. [Kotaku]

simple solution for Nintendo…. release Mario Bros. and Mario Kart as iPhone/iPad and Android games… charge $9.99 for them and watch the money roll in for the millions of users out there that would love to have those titles in their pocket all the time!

Alright in theory- but then Nintendo loose even more DS sales- after all, why buy a DS when you can just have an iPhone/Android with the same games?

      development my friend.
they say nintendo’s budget for the 3D DS was higher than everybody expected because they used the dev cycle to work on systems they can use for developing 3d game hardware for the next 10 years in other platforms.
they are also apparently developing another ‘innovation’ but who knows what that is.
also their global marketing budget is at an all time high.

They haven’t done a hell of a lot in software developement..
Just look at the Wii online store and the DSi online store.. There is very little content so other than downloading the latest firmware … whats the point.
Motion Plus is another example, they haven’t really done much with it either.

It’s like they’ve run out of ideas.
