Asus Updates The O!Play Media Streamer With USB 3.0 And iPhone Connectivity

Gizmodo AU

Asus have given their highly regarded O!Play HD2 media streamer a high tech injection, pumping things like USB 3.0, DLNA and iPhone interconnectivity into the device’s body using a sharp needle. Or maybe engineers. Who really knows how the magic happens?

The new O!Play also supports 3.5-inch hard drives, and can be configured as a NAS device, with iTunes, Samba and FTP server functions built into the software. The iPhone controls let you manage the device from your Apple handset, and the device is firmware upgradeable too.

For $279, this sounds like a versatile addition to the home entertainment setup, beyond the traditional media streamer. Given the positive reviews of previous generations, it’ll be interesting to see how this one performs.

I’ve been looking into this lately but I have yet to see the iPhone app anywhere.

Sony has already release a very useable iphone app for their yet unreleased SMP-N100, but I have yet to see the ASUS app.

    Anyone with better luck?
