Your Telstra Desire Probably Isn’t Getting HTCSense.com (But It Is Getting Froyo, Finally)

Gizmodo AU

HTCSense.com? Unlikely. Froyo? Within the next four weeks.

At the launch of the HTC Desire HD and Desire Z, HTC CEO Peter Chou was a little unsure about whether or not the existing Desire would get all the nifty new HTCSense.com features. Which, if I’m being cynical, probably means that it won’t.

Over at Lifehacker, Gus reports that it’s not all doom and gloom for Desire owners, with Telstra due to drop Android 2.2 (“Froyo”) onto its users in the next four weeks. Yes, we’ve had to wait a while for it, although those keen could hack a replacement ROM into place. If you’re not keen on that, though, it looks like the Froyo update is imminent anyway.

Telstra don’t want you to have HTCSense.com, so that if you lose your phone you have to buy a new one!

It’s not Telstra that doesn’t want you to have access to htcsense.com, it HTC! They are currently only making it compatible with HTC Desire HD and HTC Desire Z and neither of those phones are even on the open market yet.

I’m pretty confident the XDA team will get HTCSense.com onto the Desire, the HD2 and a good many other phones.

That’s great news, now I’ll have to spring for a larger memory card. Really glad Telstra didn’t just let this slip by.

if htc want me to buy another one of their phones, they better show me they will support their products beyond the few months it takes to be superseded.

Did they sell me this phone under false pretense or what.

Just tried to register my Desire on HTC Sense. Bought it in May 2011, unlocked and covered with Telstra branding, including the words ‘With HTC Sense’ on the back of the phone. But it’s not actually available as a handset when you go to htcsense.com! Fail for HTC. Kinda wish I bought an iPhone…
