These are fake worms, or at least I think they are. Somebody laced these fake worms with magnets to make them act much more wormy (read: creepy) than real worms do.
Supposedly, there are cylindrical magnets embedded in these plastic bait worms and opposing magnets inside the wood base. To make the fake worms squirm around like that, and in turn make me squeamish, the magnets in the base would probably have to be rotating in and out.
The lesson? If you take something already creepy in real life and turn it fake, it only gets more creepy. [Propnomicon via Make]
