The new iPod lineup has been announced – fresh and awesome new Nanos, Touches and Shuffles – but nary a word about the iPod Classic.
Goodbye, old friend. It was your time. Update: It is still for sale, though, $329 for 160GB. But it’s as good as dead if they’re not updating it. So we’ll call it life support. Maybe, like with the Apple TV, the future of Apple devices is clouded gadgets with 0GB.

Thursday, September 2, 2010 at 9:22 AMF**k you Apple, if this thing gets phased out, I’m switching for my next mp3 player. I still use the iPod Classic and it’s great because there’s no bullshit on it; it just does what the iPod was originally created to do: play music, and do it well.

Thursday, September 2, 2010 at 9:56 AMI feel the same, I have 150+ gigs of music that I want to carry round in a personal player. I’ve been waiting 4 months for a product refresh as my old 80g died, I was maybe hoping for a bigger harddrive and better pre-amps. God I hate Apple right now, but alot of my media is now in Apple lossless and its guna be a pain in the arse to convert it all to use a new player.
I need the click wheel for driving! I’m a traditional kinda guy, Iphone for phoning, Ipod for listening!

Thursday, September 2, 2010 at 12:06 PMI’ve got a 120Gb Zune, and it’s sweet! The only thing I don’t like about it is that it’s a closed environment, just like Apple. By that I mean, you con’t drag and drop songs, you have to use the Zune player :(
I’m not sure if Creative are still doing large capacity players?

Thursday, September 2, 2010 at 2:47 PMAnother thing, I would have thought Apple would at least release an update for the iPod Classic, because I can still use Winamp to manage my iPod (and do a much better job of it), instead of iTunes. All their other devices pretty much only allow iTunes to access them now. Even with this whole “Ping” thing with iTunes 10, I’d still rather use Winamp.
