The Entire Star Wars Saga Is Finally Coming To Blu-ray In 2011

George Lucas announced today that all six live-action Star Wars movies will be released on Blu-ray in late 2011. Along with seeing every strand of Chewbacca’s hair and Princess Leia look pretty in HD, the box set will also include documentary features and previously unseen footage. Pricing hasn’t been announced yet.

But why did it take so long? Lucas says that they’ve been waiting for Blu-ray to take off:

“We’ve been wanting to do it as soon as we possibly could, but we just wanted to do it when enough people would be able to buy it and see it”

True die-hard fans may be sad to hear that the first three movies – Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi – won’t be the original version of the movie, but rather the digitally restored version. But hey! Star Wars on Blu-ray! Nothing else matters. [New York Times]

Wow.. Never saw that coming. God Lucas is a douche these days. He knows that all the fans of the REAL Star Wars films want the originals AND ONLY THE ORIGINALS. On Blu-ray he could have released both the original and r(aped)emastered copies on the same disks with seamless branching. But no. We get another bastardisation of the films we all know and love. Wonder what he’ll change this time. Maybe Han didn’t shoot at all. Maybe Greedo just had the blaster round the wrong way.

The scene from Return of the Jedi, where Luke is building his new lightsaber on Tatooine.

“when enough people would be able to buy it and see it”

Gee, if you had taken the time to ask, most people would have told you, Star Wars and Lord of the Rings where among the top movies people were actually WAITING for before upgrading there equipment!

    What a lot of crap!

    ps – Can I have a copy please…?

Not buying another set of Star Wars movies until they come out in BluRay in 3D. And its a surefire bet that thats at least 5 years away.

Take the 1080p raped versions, strip all the scenes he destroyed, upscale the original version and insert for those few seconds.

I could handle a small ammount of poor quality for an unbutchered original
