Pure’s Got A Digital Radio For Cheap People Too

Gizmodo AU

If you’re looking for a cheap way to get into digital radio, Pure has announced the $79 Pure Mi to hit shelves next month.

Available in both black and white, the Mi is a small little DAB+ device with a monochrome screen, 16 presets and an FM tuner to compliment the DAB+ one. It’s small enough to have anywhere in the home, and there’s an optional battery pack that allows up to 18 hours worth of listening away from a power point.

It’s kind of ugly, but for the asking price, I guess that can be forgiven should you be in the market for a new digital radio.

Question: If Digital radio provides ‘crystal clear stereo sound’ Why the hell are most of the units out there produced with a single speaker?

I’m no expert, but i would assume that 2 speakers that close together would sound exactly the same as stereo downmixed to mono.. if you can spot the difference between 1 speaker, and 2 speakers 1 inch away from each other, without holding it to your face, then more power to you!

one of the Pure units has a second speaker that you can plug in to it, but it has a long lead so that you can actually experioence stereo sound..

I bought a Pure One Elite with stereo speakers but
found that the stereo effect is not really effective with the speakers so close.
The quality of the sound of DAB+ radios is nowhere near CD quality.
The Pure One Elite has a headphone jack which allows me to hear better quality sound and true stereo separation, but I usually want to listen to radio untethered.
I bought my radio after being very impressed with an instore demo, but it had had the sound pumped through an external amplifier.

Another question: Are there any in car solutions other than the “Pure Highway”?

Sorry to be a nay sayer, but I had issues with a ‘PURE’ clock radio some months ago, so I sent an email to the AU address and later the .COM. I’m yet to receive a reply of any form.

Why are all digital radios so GD ugly, even the grundig ones, that go for that 50′s esk look… seriously

maybe pure should have a design competition or something, a plastic 80′s single speaker knock off isnt something thats appealing. They all look cheap plastic and tinny

I’d take note of the DAB+ radio in this weeks Aldi catalogue, cheaper than the Kaiser Bass one, but better looking.

    Digital Radios are grossly over-priced.

Until the prices come down to a realistic level, I will not even consider one.

    $79 for that?

I wouldn’t pay any more than $40 for it.
