New Sennheiser Gaming Headsets Help You Know When You’re Shot In The Back

Gizmodo AU

Gamers looking for a 7.1 channel surround sound gaming headset might want to pay a bit of attention to Sennheiser’s latest release: The PC 163D and PC 333D headsets are designed to offer a completely immersive aural experience with sound from Dolby.

Both headsets feature 7.1 Dolby surround sound, integrated volume control and adjustable boom mics with noise cancellation. The 163D is an open style headset system, which makes it lightweight and comfortable, whereas the 333D uses a closed cup system for blocking out external noise. The 333D also adds a hinge on the right ear cup for talking with teammates, a microphone mute setting activated by raising the boom mic, and a carry case.

Both headsets are available now, with the 163D costing $280 and the 333D selling for $320.

I am insulted that Giz is recommending 7.1 surround HEADPHONES….

There is no difference between having two speakers and 7 speakers surrounding your head, because the implementation of the ’3D Surround Sound’ with headphones is based on software which times the sound to each ear which gives you the perception of the sound movements.

The speakers are right next to your ear, there is nothing ’7.1′ about having more speakers on each headphone.

Get a set of Audiotechnica’s from headphones.com.au and you will not regret it.

      Hey ace,

I’m in the market for X-platorm headphones as well and I doubt these will do it.

I haven’t tried them myself but I have heard a couple of good things about Tritton AX720′s (http://www.trittonusa.com/products/#).They are PC, PS3 & Xbox compatible.

Maybe somebody here knows of other alternatives?

@ace From the looks of it no. It comes with a sound card so would assume desktop PC (Windows) only. Bugger though, would be great for playing BFBC2

*sigh* $199 on G35′s is such a waste of money.

You can get such a better pair for that amount of money.

      PS3 and Xbox 360 compatibility I don’t know… but PC for certain.

Just bought some Astro A30s which are cross platform (but they’re not cheap!).

I was also interested in the idea of some Sennheiser Rs180s (wireless, surround, using Kleer tech so no interference).
