NBN To Offer 1Gbps Speeds At Launch

Wow. It looks like broadband is truly becoming an election issue, with NBNCo announcing this morning that they won’t just be delivering the 100Mbps speeds previously promised, but will instead deliver 1Gbps speeds to 93 per cent of Australian homes. Like I said… Wow.

The announcement, made this morning at the official launch of the NBN (hasn’t this thing been official for ages already?) will not add to the $43 billion price tag of the NBN, but will offer speeds 10 times their previous promised maximum speed.

The Mitchell Bingemann article in Australian IT this morning has a great quote from telecommunications analyst Paul Budde: “These speeds will no doubt excite all of the nerds and gamers out there”.

Colour this nerd gamer excited.
