Architect Dan Herchenroether put together this sweet set-up to save space in his cottage home:
Dan mounted the TV on a board that he hinged with gas springs so it would be easy to open and close when necessary. Additional space in the compartment is accessible from a panel on the other side of the wall that’s totally inconspicuous when closed.

Not sure I’d be tilting a 55″ 36kg television very often, and obviously you’d need a void in your wall sufficiently deep (which is not that easy to find), a infrared repeater (maybe) to be able to remote control the devices within, and a fan or exhaust to allow the devices to stay cool. But it does take the idea of “putting the wires behind the t.v. actually in to the wall” to the next logical step.
