In case you missed it, The Social Network, also known to most of us as “the Facebook movie”, released its first teaser. And the oddest part isn’t the Hackers-esque dramatisation of pageviews and linking. It’s the kicker.
Jesse Eisenberg’s face.
No offence to Jesse Eisenberg – he’s a perfectly normal looking human being. Well, Hollywood normal, which I still count as a neutral statement on my part because it basically just means he’s a decent-looking guy forced by a system larger than any of us to maintain a six pack, even if we never see it, even if his haircut implies a less regimented lifestyle that could never make the necessary sacrifices to maintain sculpted core musculature.
Anyway, the trailer, after failing to warm us up to Jesse Eisenberg’s visage as a substitute for the real Mark Zuckerberg through the use of motion pictures, leaves us on a shot of Eisenberg’s face. If there was any narrative illusion to be had in the series of clips, it’s destroyed by this dramatic, pixelated mugshot. [Telegraph]
