The Arctic Spyder III Lightsabre Laser In Action

When we first heard of the eyeball-blinding, skin-scorching capabilities of the the Spyder III Arctic, the world’s most powerful portable laser, I wasn’t necessarily convinced it was all it was cracked up to be. This video confirms: crazily, terrifyingly powerful.

As many have pointed out, this is an extremely dangerous laser, and since its announcement Wicked Lasers, the company have added some safety and training measures requisite for purchase. Our Arctic Spyder III will be arriving any day now, for (safe, controlled) testing. Any crazy ideas for what we should do with this blue beam of terror (in a safe, controlled environment) when it arrives? Let us know in the comments. [Wicked Lasers via Jon Phillips]

Fry bacon, then eat it. Also, try to “boil” an egg without the water.

Get yourself a wood-fireplace, and see if you can light it without firelighters or matches.

Place one in a lego spaceship and use it to melt another spaceship.

Time how long it takes to melt a hole through 1Kg block of Cheddar cheese,
Carve/melt/inscribe “Gizmodo” into some steel cutlery,
Heat a brick paver for three minutes…

point it at a shaken can of shaving cream –> Video footage of the results please.

The Arctic III’s will be shipped from Wicked Lasers on July 15th (check your email from WL) so I wouldn’t be expecting them to arrive any day now unless they’re shipped some out early.

I bought two Arctic III’s so I can have mock light saber duels at night. ^_^ Don’t worry, we’ll be careful not to burn our eyes out. Actually the main reason I got them is due to the fact that they’re so powerful and inexpensive.

I bought a green laser a few years back that was rated at 250-500mW (500mW being half of 1W) and it cost over $900. These lasers SHOULD cost well over $2,000 for a blue laser (Blue is traditionally more expensive than other laser colors) with 1W of power.

I suggest that you take photos/video of the laser beam cutting through the night sky (careful to avoid aircraft of course).

Try and hack it into an even more powerful laser.
It needs to at least burn through metal faster than 10 sec!
