Pay More Attention To The Back Of Your Monitor

Don’t rest your monitor on magazines, books and bricks – it’s an accident waiting to happen. Turn your 17-inch Dell into a design feature with the Humanscale M2 Monitor Arm, which has triumphed at the 2010 International Design Excellence Awards.

Beating over 1800 design entrants from 29 countries the M2′s spring-loaded, 99 per cent recyclable poised frame won a Bronze award in the commercial and industrial products category, thanks to looking like it could be Ellen Ripley’s choice of monitor stand.

And don’t worry about wearing out its springs and joints playing with it while seeking out the ultimate in internet viewing positions – Humanscale offers a 15-year warranty on the thing, should it start getting arthritic. [Humanscale via Core77]

There was a beautifully designed monitor arm released by Hafele back in 2005 that used a spring called the ELLIPTA. It was designed by Charlwood, an industrial design consultancy based in Melbourne, Australia.
It won the Gold award at Neocon in 2005 and was very ahead of its time.
Its still in production too: http://www.hafeledesktech.com

If you like the look of this monitor arm, you can purchase it from Schiavello in Australia for less than $200.00
