
The mobile satellite communications company is working on that, using a two kilobyte-per-second data link between aeroplanes and its global network of satellites. The system has been already demonstrated in flights over the Atlantic, using Airbus and Boeing planes. [Aviation Week]

Friday, July 23, 2010 at 6:34 AMWhy don’t they do it? Because it is VERY expensive whenever they are a few miles from land. On land, it is easy and doesn’t rely on expensive satellite comms, but then the flight recorders don’t get lost so much.
