My $5 MDP -> HDMI adapter that I got on eBay sends audio via the HDMI cable to my external monitor from my April ’10 MBP just fine. I got it about a week or two after the latest MBP’s came out. Aside from Apple support, what’s so amazing about this one?

Same here – even better than the adapter above, my cable is a single unit, without the need for an adapter, and a separate hdmi cable. I got 2 – one is left plugged-in to the LCDTV while the other travels in the laptop bag. Check ebay guys!!

Does not work with any Macbook before the 2010 model.
The 2009 range does not support MiniDisplay port audio pass through :(
