HTC Disputes Apple Mobile Phone Demo With Numbers Of Its Own

In the wake of Apple’s peculiar iPhone 4 Strikes Back! press conference, you’d be normal if you expected miffed competitors, especially after Jobs threw the likes of Blackberry, HTC and Nokia under the “Antennagate” bus. Now HTC is hitting back:

While not an official statement, HTC’s Eric Lin, PR chief and online community manager, told Pocket Lint that the handsets singled out by Jobs and Co. during the Friday press conference (mssrs. HTC Legend, HTC Desire, and HTC Nexus One), are actually seeing a complaint rate that’s less than the .55% figure allegedly enjoyed by the iPhone 4.

On the Eris especially, Lin told Pocket lint that “we have had very few complaints about signal or antenna problems on the Eris.”

Backlash against Apple is nothing new, of course, even though it is only Sunday, a mere two days after it started raining bumpers. Nokia and RIM have both weighed in already, with their stern words arriving here yesterday, sternly.

And so the back and forth between several powerful corporations continues, with consumers somewhere in the DMZ between them, clutching maybe-definitely-not at all working mobile phones with an incorrect grip against their quivering chests. If only there were some kind of trustworthy, independent, third party consumer reporting-type organisation out there that could help us all out with our buying decisions! [Pocket Lint via Engadget]

Which is exactly the point. All phones have these problems but, until beaten up by the tech press, nobody noticed or cared.

Pretty crap Gizmodo, you quote all these loser PR people so as to try to kick up muck, but completely miss the point that Apple showed that all phones can be held in a reasonable way that makes them lose reception just like the iPhone 4 (including the 3GS).

But you keep repeating it and posting everyone’s response without even digging into them to get hard facts or scientific data or specific replies about what happened, except to repost what they said.

You’re NOT journalists, you don’t dig, you don’t have integrity. You’re just bloggers.

Some phones have colossal issues, others do not. Apple stood in the media light and proclaimed what it had manufactured – and then doesnt expect to be harassed by the media when they fail ? cmon

True JohnD. And true Doctor owl. I used to laugh at women who read trash magazines about celebrity gossip. I have sinced realized reading this blog is the male equivalent. It’s a bit sad really. But we are almost as much to blame for clicking on this crap.

^ all apple fan boys the reason its coming to surface is because its a huge problem and its not normal I hold my htc desire around any corner and it doesn’t drop reception even if it did it wouldn’t cut calls or data which is a big deal so stop hoping on Steve jobs band wagon of “this has been an issue for all phones because it really isn’t.

      +1.

I have tried to get the signal to drop on my desire by holding it all kinds of ways. Not once have i seen the bars move.

Maybe i’m doing it wrong. Steve should show me how to drop a signal on my desire.

I wonder if anyone will do a more comprehensive test with multiple phones from multiple suppliers.

Ideally someone independent. Independent verification of a company’s tests would do too.

I honestly can’t wait for the new era of fanboy to say “who uses their iPhone as a phone anyway, I just use mine for the awesome apps etc”

    I am not a fanboy, but I do own a 3G and a 3GS.
