Australian Hospital Resembles Strange Outback-Dinosaur

Due to open sometime in 2014, this $1.28 billion children’s hospital in Brisbane has been inspired by a “living tree”, with the various wooden windows jutting out like treehouses sat on branches.

Once it’s finished in four years’ time, the hospital will contain 359 beds and is just bright and cheery-looking enough that it should help lessen the trauma of the kids who are cooped up inside. [Lyons and Conrad Gargett via DesignBoom]

Lucky this is a childrens hospital, imagine if it was a rehab center the patients would all freak out if they stepped outside.

Why do people equate a fucking ugly building with inspired design? Jesus christ. I can’t believe we funded this crap.

Ok Cody, let’s make every single building a bland beige cube. Would that appease your raging asperges?

I don’t really see anything tree like in this… even worse I am having trouble seeing this fit in anywhere at all! I’m a bit tired of eyesores appearing in brisbane… first off it was the Kurilpa bridge and then the god awful exhaust stakes for the clem 7 tunnel.. Just because you make something with cool colours and panels doesn’t make it aesthetically appealing or an inspiring piece of architectural brilliance…
