Apple Acknowledges Faulty Time Capsules – Travels Back To 2008 To Make Repairs

Apple issued a support statement over the weekend regarding its Time Capsule data backup solution – some of them have been breaking well before they should. But it’s OK, models from between Feb and June 2008 can be replaced, free.

If you have a malfunctioning, out-of-warranty Time Capsule that “may not power on or may shut down unexpectedly after starting up” with a serial number that falls in the range XX807XXXXXX to XX814XXXXXX, Apple says you qualify for “repair or replacement” under its new crowd-pleasing scheme. Plus Apple is refunding previous repair costs, if you’ve paid to have one of the specified models fixed yourself. [Apple Support via TUAW]

Piece of shit thing. Mine died like all the rest. I got a replacement eventually but it’s just sitting in the cupboard not even turned on. I lost faith in it. Its only going to crash again
