For anyone hoping that the Standing Committee of Attorneys-Generals would be reviewing the need for an R18+ games classification this month, prepare for disappointment – David over at Kotaku brings us word that the discussion has been delayed yet again.
Apparently the latest delay is due to the upcoming Federal election, which has seen the July SCAG meeting cancelled. The next meeting is set for November 4-5 in Canberra, which means it’s unlikely we’ll have a logical rating system for games this year. It also raises doubts that the review of the RC category will be completed by the middle of next year in time for filter legislation to be introduced.

Thursday, July 22, 2010 at 2:32 PMIf this attitude of Australian government is not promoting piracy, I don’t know what is.
They keep living in their world of 1940s, and we want to play modern games, making choices as adults. If I can’t get, say, uncensored Fallout: New Vegas, guess what I’m gonna do?
Yes, I’m gonna download it.
Smart move, Attouney-Generals. I hope you retire soon.

Thursday, July 22, 2010 at 4:05 PMNo, you are the only one encouraging piracy
If you want the game uncut, import it from overseas, so the developer gets your money. Downloading it is a lame excuse for boycotting a lack of R-rating in Australia.

Thursday, July 22, 2010 at 5:18 PMYou are correct sir. You are better off sending your money overseas and boycotting stripped versions that are released to us here. I’ve started looking at importing such R18+ games while the Attorney Generals put this issue off for the next decade.
They don’t realise that the problem won’t just go away without them doing something, and all the while we will be getting hold of the full versions of these banned games one way or another.
Usually companies, whether they be gaming companies, social network companies and so on, will usually listen to the people for what they want and then make appropriate changes to their product to meet the peoples wants and needs.
The AG’s are a different bunch though. Rather than them understanding the growing demand for these types of products they are just burying their head in the sand while we still get what we want even if it takes us a bit longer to get it.

Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at 1:24 AMIf I did order an R18 game from overseas could it be seized by customs in Australia or is it only ilegal to sell R18 games here?
