It’s so oddly reassuring that a fart simulator is in the top 20 all time paid App Store apps, isn’t it? Maybe that’s just me. [Online MBA]

Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at 2:38 PMConsidering there’s a USA flag icon at the top and bottom I’d say this is USA centric; we all know Nokia doesn’t exist in the USA.

Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at 2:38 PMBeing a N97 owner, I can understand why no Ovi store. Ovi doesn’t so much sell apps but rather bits of software that will crash your phone or downright don’t work.

Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at 2:41 PMFor me the most interesting takeaway from all those statistics is:
“Even now, 90% of app developers do not make a sustainable return on investment.”
That’s just sad.

Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at 4:22 PMits ok, I felt like that too. but you have to remember, 90% of people are n00bs who will jump on any ‘get rich quick’ bandwagon, without the skill or even knowledge of whats involved. even most who would call themselves developers are very average.
I have come to see that if everyone knows what they are doing, and you have a good idea, you can do very well.

Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at 4:19 PMiPhone + Android = only 25% of the market. That surprised me.

Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at 10:40 PMI wonder why there is no mention of the fact that for Windows phones the vast majority of apps are not available through the on-phone marketplace but via dozens of online stores and other 3rd party sources. There are 10s of thousands of Windows Mobile apps above the tiny percentage that are sold via the phones.

Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at 11:06 PMI find the Nokia statistic interesting personally. 44.3% of the total smart phone sales yet Ovi Store doesn’t even get a mention in the stores section just above it. Even if the statistics for Stores are US only and the sales Worldwide it really shows how poor Nokia has done so far with it’s Ovi store, and thats globally not just in the US.
Nokia and MS really have something to prove the next 12 months in that area.

Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at 3:56 PMAm I the only one that finds the itunes app store almost completely useless to find apps. The design may have worked when they numberee in the hundreds but not anymore.
