Of course it could amount to nothing, but there have been murmurings that this might happen, and in any event it’s certainly something we’ve been hoping would happen.
As Matt explained, MobileMe’s services aren’t really a luxury anymore, and users are increasingly growing to expect that type of seamless, automatic syncing on their devices. Announcing a free, basic MobileMe service at WWDC would go a long way to getting Apple’s head in the cloud and fulfilling that expectation. [BGR]

Monday, June 7, 2010 at 10:05 AMI’m unconvinced. I’d probably look at the google offerings as they pretty much do everything I want and they are free and unrestricted.
The only feature even worth considering is the gallery, but we still have flikr…

Monday, June 7, 2010 at 10:22 AMI was reading your previous article about cloud and Apple and was wondering how they’d do the transition if MobileMe ever became free. Reality is that whenever they’d do it, there would be a large section (read: all) of current MobileMe users who would be screwed and mighty pissed that their year long contract has now become worthless.
Two solutions applied, one being the “full member” as above and the other being re-reimbursement for the time left over.
Anyone who knows Apple knows the prior was infinitely more likely. Will be interesting to see when they do it (even if it’s not now) where the line between free and pay comes in.

Monday, June 7, 2010 at 1:58 PMThat would be really great. I was starting to think about building an exchange server to manage my email, colander and contacts across all my devices. There is only so far Google will go when you use outlook and want your info in sync all the time.
