I will not be surprised if this prototype gets produced for real and installed in gyms all across the world. It seems to me like a really good idea. [Pool Sprint via Design Boom]

Saturday, June 19, 2010 at 12:19 PMi agree that it would very hard to run properly when attempting to touch your foot to the conveyor (“weight bear”).
water running has been used for years as a rehab tool following injury, and is great for a cardiovascular workout in a non weight-bearing environment. adding a conveyor belt to help your weight-bearing leg to fully extend at the end of the running cycle actually makes it easier on the muscles. i would add weights or paddles to increase resistance instead.
Thats also the main point of water running – to NOT bear weight – low impact exercise that doesnt put too much ground reaction force into injured joints/muscles etc.
All you need is a life preserver jacket and maybe to anchor yourself to the side of the pool with a rope, then practise your running on the spot. much cheaper and a lot less gimmicky.
my humble opinion as a physiotherapist
