It’s not just Android that Swype, the company which pioneered an ultra-fast texting method, has its eyes on – they’re apparently developing an iPhone version, which they’re hoping Apple will have no objections to.
Considering it’s in the Guinness Book of World Records as the fastest way to text message, Apple shouldn’t have any problems with OK-ing it for the App Store. Unless they see it as being competitive to their own virtual keyboard.
Swype’s CEO Mike McSherry said to Reuters that it “remains to be seen” as to whether they’ll be able to launch the app or not. I don’t think I’ve heard a single bad word said about Swype, so maybe Apple should consider buying the company – and then licence the software out to HTC, Motorola, Samsung, et al. Friday, June 25, 2010 at 10:07 AMlol what? surely Apple can just let the company do it’s thing without buying them.
your right though. I support the growth of one all powerful company that has already shown how it likes to exploit the lack of freedom it’s customers have for every penny they can get out of them.

Friday, June 25, 2010 at 11:29 AMI’m confused here. About 2 years ago I got the ShapeWriter App on my iPhone that does the exact same thing.
So it’s already on my iPhone. What is Swype doing that is any different?
P.S. This was invented by IBM and not pioneered by Swype or Android.

Me too – ShapeWriter is unfortunately no longer in the App Store (not sure why), but *yeah* it existed there Looooooooong before hitting Android Market.
It wasn’t fully integrated like on Android, but it functioned otherwise – identically.

Friday, June 25, 2010 at 2:02 PMI hope the iphone doesn’t get it, because it gives Android yet another feature that apple doesn’t have.
And swype rocks.
