Nexus One On Sale Through Vodafone Tomorrow, Limited Numbers

Gizmodo AU

We originally thought that the Nexus One was going to land on Vodafone some time in June, but it looks like we were a day out – Vodafone just announced they’ll be selling the Android handset exclusively from tomorrow.

The phone will only be available online, and there are apparently a limited number of handsets, so it’ll be first in first dressed for anyone wanting one. The phone itself will be available for $0 up front on a $79 cap over 24 months, which definitely puts it on the pricey side of Android smartphones.

It will be interesting to see if there’s anyone really keen on the Nexus One who hasn’t already bought an unlocked model, but in any case, more variety in the Android smartphone market in Australia is a good thing.

like with the Legend I feel a bit let down with Vodafone’s priceing, $20 more then the Galaxy S on Optus, next thing you know Telstra will be undercutting them!

exactly. and considering tech wise, the galaxy s pwns it. even with it’s weaknesses, that’s nearly $500 less over the 2 years…

honestly, the article caught me by surprise, I thought you were actually saying it was on special… because it’s so old…

I’m hoping this takes off here. I’ve had my N1 for 5 months since importing it from the US and absolutely love it.

Great timing too with the release of Froyo!

Nexus what…..? oh that’s right, Google did release a phone once upon a time. But then nobody bought it, everybody forgot about it and iPhone 4 came thundering along.

iPhone’s good as well, but they work well together, because the iPhone looks good, and the Nexus One can actually get reception when you hold it.

Great phone, great that it’s finally available here officially, shame about the carrier’s substandard network.

Does this mean we’ll get navigation (without the Brut hack) and google voice soon?

Glad I already have my imported Nexus

$79 cap over 24 months???? That works out to be $1896 over two years. Is it just me or does anyone else think that this is a ludicrous amount to spend on a phone?

I’d like to see some of the official N1 accesories made available in Australia. In particular the car dock but also the desk dock and spare battery.

I bought a desk dock off ebay but all it is is a usb plug wedged into a plastic mould – the phone doesn’t recognize it as a dock at all.

That is ridiculous, a phone that is 6 months old is 30 bucks more expensive per month than its newer superior brother the Desire. Not to mention that the call rates on Telstra are much better…EPIC fail

Damn, I’m not gonna be one of the few Nexus one owners in Aus anymore…

But this does mean a lot more official goodies =) Navigation… Voice… CASES and ACCESSORIES. I always wanted a case for my Nexus (even though the android pouch was OK)

Ummm the HTC Legend was also $79 over 24 months.

But I went in store, and asked the Vodafone salesperson, and came out with the phone on a $79 12 month plan.

Don’t believe everything you read, but I reckon it’ll be the same plans as the Legend ($49 x 24 months or $79 24 / 12 months).

The Desire is much better value on Telstra. Not to mention you get superior coverage, a nice aesthetic design, superior multi-touch (the Desire has much better responsiveness as demonstrated on numerous tech sites) and HTC Sense. The only downside to HTC Sense is that you’ll be waiting longer for Froyo to be released.

The Nexus One was cool 6 months ago. Now it just looks old and overpriced.

Oh my. There seems to be a lot of people thinking a bit too much short-term here. First of all, the Telstra $49 cap is not very competitive at all. $400 of credit + 200MB of data is really quite limited. To say that their network is superior is definitely not true, however they do have better coverage (if you live in rural areas). Desire and Nexus One is basically the same phone, therefore I personally think that Vodafone offers a much better deals with the Nexus One on their $49+$10 plan. This cap gives the user $450 of standard credit, unlimited calls to Vodafone and 3 (31% of all phones in Australia), and 500MB of data. The plan is $10 more expensive, however it surely gives a heck of a lot more value. I think that everyone that has used Telstras service can agree that it’s really quite bad, and far from superior.

I have been considering both the nexus one from voda and the desire from telstra.

Unfortunately, i still haven’t seen an N1 in the flesh.. none of the voda stores seem to know anything about the N1. I guess you can only get it on line. I would also consider $49 + $10

I also went into a telstra store and jbhifi. Just for look and feel of the device, I am tending towards the desire. Also, it seems that the $49 Desire equates to a $39 plan + a $10 browsing pack (which is 200mb) according to jbhifi I can get the $39 and up the data plan to $20 giving me 500mb.. so $59 for $400 call credit and 500mb ..pretty comparable to vodafone i think! and jbhifi will also give me a $100 voucher for being a new telstra customer (i am currently on optus)
