Kogan Votes Out The Kevin37 LCD For The Ranga Julia32

Gizmodo AU

The Labor party spill last week has claimed another victim – the Kevin37 LCD TV from Kogan. On the upside, the Aussie company has launched a special new red 32 model called the Julia32.

For $499 including shipping, you get a 32-inch Samsung panel with integrated PVR functionality via USB and HD tuner. Apparently it’s only going to be available for a limited time, so if you’ve got a real love affair for red gadgets, you should probably get in quickly.

Yes, I’ve heard that the while the Julia32 is supposed to be more reliable and attractive, that getting it started is a bit of a problem. Then once started it performs pretty much like the superceded Kevin37 model.

A closer inspection reveals that in fact under the hood, the technical specifications are exactly the same, and that all the manufacturer has done is re-package the old model.

You can get it as an end-of-financial year special for a limited time, but the manufacturer cannot say how long it will be available for. Industry analysts say that it is very likely to be replaced with a newer model in the next 2-3 months.

MY VERDICT: No real improvement on the old model. Hold off buying for a few months until the new model is announced.
