HTC Hero Getting Eclair 2.1 Update Across Europe

Straight out of the HTC mouthpiece:

“Android Éclair update for HTC Hero will be released by the end of June. The upgrade will come in two parts, the first of which will roll out from this week and will be detected when the Hero next automatically checks for software updates. The second part of the update will follow towards the end of the month. As the second part of the upgrade will wipe all data on the handset, Hero users should ensure any important data has been backed up before proceeding with the installation. Due to the size of the update, wherever possible, we would advise using a WiFi connection for this download to avoid additional data charges.”

Great news, eh European friends?

    If you find that you hero isn’t getting the update set the date to August this year.

    It should get the update once you do that.

      WIN for AUS gyes, Enjoy 2.1 update, pretty cool both the morning and the notification that 2.1 is ready to be downloaded.
      It will perform small update first, will restart, then will do another update which will be 2.1

    I performed the date change and received an FOTA update however it is only an intermediary update and not the full 2.1 Eclair update. New firmware version after this update is 2.73.405.93 from the previous 2.73.405.5

    Supposedly it takes another 14 days after this update until the 2.1 update is sent FOTA.

    Tonight, at around 1 PM I scanned for updates and found the 2.1 update waiting. It went fine, no errors… and most important: it works just great!

    How do I scan for new firmware updates? There is nothing on the HTC site showing the update is available.
