exactly right! with out them, all we would have had is iphone and winmo7 both of which are massively controlled. good to hear that avoiding this is actually their goal! (hope it stays that way). that way the controlled devices and all the benefits that arguably come from that can live harmoniously with the open platform. (though if google do it right, they will dominate them all!)

Do people honestly take this crap at face value? Newsflash: they’re a publicly held company. They’re in it to create shareholder value.

    This means money.

What a load of BS. What about RIM, they’re bigger than Apple in smartphones and Apple only has 3% of the total worldwide market.

Sure we can’t agree with everything Apple does, but this ….

So Google does everything from the bottom of their hearts do they? They’re slowly taking over all of our data and web traffic, now they want the mobile and TV space, and let’s not forget they’ll make an OS soon. It’s scary that one company can take so much control and people actually trust them.

This is going to bite us in the bum one day. Google is going to be the monopoly that Microsoft tried to be.

lol yeah… and I see them forcing it down your throat to, like MS did. or locking you in, like Apple does… you know why so many people use all there stuff? because it is GOOD and great value (usually free)!!

from what I can tell, they have never done anything to hurt their customers, the same cannot be said for the other companies, and everything they do seems to be for the better for people! sure, they may screw over other companies, but I’m not another company, SO I DON’T CARE!

clever marketing or whatever! point being they have thrown down their hand! if they now head towards the horrible pattern of Apple and MS with android they will be making a public back flip!

ok, sure, so it may all be one big plot to take over the world and enslave humanity, but at the moment I just don’t see it…

and @Sam Klingner, what are you saying? of course they are in it to make money!! but if they can do that by screwing over their customers way less than the competition, thats all that matters to me! and it is really easy to take this at face value BECAUSE ITS 100% TRUE! the iPhone model is nothing but anti-competitive, and would lead EXACTLY to a “draconian future. Where one man, one company, one carrier was the future” i.e. a Monopoly, like with windows.

    Matt. Totally agreed with you.
Google can make all the money they want, as
    Microsoft did.
But if they do it without locking, blocking, and screwing up their customers, they will have our support.
