Yep, this weekend I’m playing with the iPad. I’ve already had a few goes with it today in between launches, events, meetings and writing. I’m kinda surprised by how much I like it.
But sadly like does not equate to needing to buy one. It’s just not versatile enough for me to use it as a serious work machine, and I sadly don’t consume enough to make that side of things worth my while. At least so far – I’m interested to see where Apple takes this thing in V2 and beyond – because seriously, getting some multitasking power in there will change things dramatically.
Other than the iPad, I’m still playing Red Dead Redemption. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed some games over the past year or so, but this thing is something else. So far, I’ve spent about 12 hours doing non-critical stuff. I’m only something like five per cent of the way through the story arc, but I’m a sharpshooting hunter with a lust for treasure and a weird obsession with herbs. And I haven’t even started playing multiplayer yet. Maybe this weekend I’ll join a posse and take on the wild west. Feel free to join me.
Anybody have a shiny new toy that they’re playing with this weekend? i assume there’ll be a few new iPad owners enjoying their purchase tomorrow. Let us know about it in comments.

Friday, May 28, 2010 at 5:13 PMI’d love to hit up some bandit hideouts this weekend if you’ve can tear yourself away from single player.
As for the ipad, a mate of mine picked up one today and, as a lucky coincidence, we’ve got a dinner party this evening. I look forward to playing with it but I still can’t see me ever getting one. Let’s see if those impressions change.

How is the kobo e-Reader?
We’d love to read your review on it.

Saturday, May 29, 2010 at 1:31 PMI got a kobo on launch day. It’s wicked! Finally an affordable e-reader. I really don’t mind plugging in usb to put books on it. Plus the books aren’t locked to this device, so you can bluetooth them to your phone, ipad etc.
Only thing I would change on the kobo is the colour of the d-pad. It sticks out like dogsb@77s.

Friday, May 28, 2010 at 10:57 PMWell I’ve had an iPad for about a month and a half now. I was crazy enough to buy one from eBay.

Saturday, May 29, 2010 at 6:49 AMMine was delivered about midday Friday and it has been a great experience. But like my iPhone setting up my email accounts on the iPad is still like pulling teeth, a very painful event. All and all the iPad is just fantastic and I got up very early this morning to have some quiet time and get to know my new friend better. I highly recommend it!

Monday, May 31, 2010 at 3:37 PMRed Dead has immediately jumped to the top of my favourite all times games list. Despite a few minor bugs that have have been mentioned everywhere, it is a fantastic game. With some RPGs and similar games I feel the need to just get through the main story as quickly a possible. Red Dead makes you want to explore and do all the side missions.
I have found myself using the fast travel less and less because riding through the countryside is so freaking enjoyable. You never know when you will come across a robbery or someone who wants to hijack your horse. I love it.
Whats even better is that because its not a “proper” RPG you don’t waste hours checking every crate, box or cupboard for stuff and you dont have to talk to almost every single person in order to get the side missions. I’m primarily a PC gamer and detest shooters on consoles because I like using my mouse and I find auto aim insulting but on Red Dead I don’t mind. It’s just that good.
