Gizmodo reader Ali sent in these photos of a mount built from about $US40 worth of parts:
I sanded off the back of the case and the mount in the area where I needed to glue the mount to the case, applied Epoxy, waited 24 hours, mounted it on the wall, and tada! The iPad can be snapped in and out of the mount and the Epoxy holds the case real well.
As a bonus, the mount can turn into a great digital photo frame holder when the iPad is not being used for other tasks. [Thanks, Ali!]

Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at 11:43 PMAs if you would mount an overhead laptop bracket! you cannot use a laptop lying down without being in a stupidly un-ergonomical position, believe me I’ve tried. and where are you backlit keys??? I’d guess <5% of laptops' keyboards can be used in the dark with any ease.
if you were arcaic enough, or space-abundant enough to have valuable real estate used for dedicated keyboard (see SonyEricssion M600, P1i, Nokia E71 series, oh, and lets see, LAPTOPS!… wait, that technology is 20 years old… I know! I heard… tsk tsk… that's like encouraging ongoing use of non-magnetic railways, fossil fuels and paper… lol) then go ahead, but the future will be much more dyamic, with flexible space, no mice or hard-keyboards, no clickety-clack dusty old trains, and no fossil fuels.
Re budget: iPad = Apple = premium price. but if you look at tablets more generally and the OLPC one laptop per child program and read about India's $35 tablet… TBC… then you'll understand that using a given area for a dedicated keyboard is actually more expensive and heavier. OLPC type programs are now looking at dirt cheap PC by way of a tablet PC, that price mark was never going to be achievable with a laptop

iPads are a great consumer device for output e.g. music, web, & reading, laptops are great devices for input e.g. work.
Like the TV swivel idea, thinking may be able to adapt to use in a car as well. It’s cheap & simple.
