Question Of The Day: Will You Ever Use Two-Way Video Calling?

Two-way video calling is now possible on Android, and the chances are damned good that they’re coming to the iPhone next month. But really, do you care?

Holding a phone up and talking at it and seeing the other person talking back is a neat trick, sure, but I can’t imagine I’ll use it much after trying it out a couple times. I mean, I barely talk on the phone normally anymore, instead relying on texts, emails and IMs to get messages to people. So a more convoluted way to make phone calls? Yeah, I’m not that interested. This seems like something they’re offering because they can, not because it actually provides any real benefits.

How about you?

I like the idea of being able to see facial expressions while having a conversation with someone, as opposed to just a voice on the other end of the line.

I’ve had the ability to do this for at least two years with my Nokia N70 and my Nokia N95…..

I’ve only used a few times though haha

I’ve used it before to call my family on the rare occasion, as they live on the other side of the city.

The main problem that has stopped people from taking up video usage is that it often fails to work, whether to someone on the same carrier or (especially) on a different carrier.

The US are behind on video calling technology!

We’ve had that since “3″ first started business in Australia

I’m a three customer, have had this feature for over 6 years now. I could count on one hand the number of times I’ve used it.

It’s kinda cool for about 10 seconds and then the novelty dissipates quick.

I think anyone that’s actually tried video-chat will agree: it sucks.
It’s just awkard, combining the worst parts of phone caht with in-person chat.

I 2nd Dion’s comment, had it since 3 launched in Aus and have only used it a handful of times. Question is why has it taken so long for “smart” phone to have this feature?

going on 9 years we have had this in Australia, This has really shown me how far the U.S are behind the world with their tech.

Its a useless feature. The idea of using it because you want to video conference with someone due to distance is negligible. Use skype on your computer.
