There was a great disturbance in the amusement park force this weekend, as Disney revealed that the closing dates for its 20-year-old Star Tours ride would be July 27 (Disneyland) and September 8 (Walt Disney World).
But don’t fret too much, young padawans, as the Star Tours rides are set to be replaced with a much grander, much more modern 3D pod racing version in May 2011.
Still, even though Star Tours was pretty dated, it will be sad to see the original go. Glad I got to experience it once a few years ago before it’s gone for good. [Gadling]

Monday, May 17, 2010 at 2:13 PMShit I didn’t even think of the Jar Jar factor. If it’s pod race that CG tool will have to make an appearance :(

Monday, May 17, 2010 at 2:11 PMI have such awesome memories of this ride as a kid. Rode it back in 89 and remember being amazed by the technology and experience. I’m sure it would be pretty funny to ride again now, but I’m sad to hear they’re getting rid of it.
