Folks, this is pretty basic stuff. If you left your phone or sunglasses or wallet or whatever in a public place and someone finds them, normally they get turned in to the owner of the establishment for reclamation. I think the last time I checked this is called the ‘Lost and Found Dept’.

If the owner determines they lost the article, they can call or go back to the last places they were to reclaim the lost item. Pretty simple stuff.

However not so simple when the lost item gets illegally sold and shown around the world, then you have a serious issue.

Bottom line, Gizmodo blew it up BIGTIME!

Frank, please stop commenting on these stories, when it’s clear you are so removed from reality.

In what world can I hand in a brand new iPhone (not a 4g, even a goddam 3G) to the lost and found dept of a pub, and believe that it will be returned to it’s rightful owner? Because it sure isn’t this world, sir.

As the story goes, finder looks around the bar for a couple of hours, can’t see the owner, takes it home and tries to return it to Apple.

GIZMODO IS NOT INVOLVED IN THIS PART OF THE STORY!

Please stop Giz bashing, it’s getting really REALLY old… and don’t refer to us as ‘folks’, I’m not sure if your intention was to come off as a Know-it-all elder, schooling the uneducated masses, but you sure as hell came across that way…

I left my phone on a plane once. Realizing within 10 minutes I rushed back to the plane was told it had been passed on to “lost and found”. By the time I got there no-one knew of it.

The fact that police were involved in this is atrocious. If this happened here in Aust I would be disappointed my taxes were at the call of a multinational to dish out revenge. C’mon Apple, get over yourselves. The publicity is surely priceless.

I “lost” my bag at a pub once and got it back with no MP3 player.

Lost and found depts aren’t to be trusted.
