SUNA Traffic Channel Has Entered Phase Two

Gizmodo AU

The SUNA traffic channel is now in pretty much every high end satnav on the market, but it turns out what we’ve seen so far is just “phase one”. This week the company behind SUNA, Intelematics, has taken the lid off phase two, and it means a big improvement over traffic accuracy.

The second phase, which should go live Q3 this year to all current SUNA users, delivers a much more accurate representation of traffic with more detailed road coverage thanks to the use of thousands of probe vehicles, including taxis, couriers, coaches and GPS equipped private vehicles.

SUNA are currently testing phase two in Sydney and Melbourne, and will roll it out to users for no cost in Q3 this year.

    sigh
I had a working prototype of using probe vehicles in the late 90′s using the Garmin 45XL gps and old laptops + comms. It worked great, but as an engineer without business interests, it just sat on my shelf. One day I’ll get business savvy – and make some money out of the many solutions I’ve protoyped over the years !
