Lifehacker is the greatest site on the net for discovering ways to get things done. But sometimes getting things done can take an ugly turn, like the tip editor Gus received for cleaning the iPhone.

Lifehacker reader Rhett wrote in with this stunning piece of advice for cleaning marks off your iPhone screen:

Don’t ask me how I found this out, but if you’ve got crap on your iPhone screen that won’t come off with a tissue, giving your iPhone a good lick or two and then giving it another go with a tissue is a win every time.

Eeeewwwwwww!!!!!

    I like my iphone, but it had better start paying me if it wants to be licked!

    (actually, I have done something similar in the past, using a wet finger…nuff said)

    You probably shouldn’t be cleaning a screen with something as abrasive as a tissue anyway, unless your goal is to scratch it.

    Lens cleaning cloths exist for a reason.

    @Greg

    I want to believe there is someone out there in the world pedantic enough to clean an iPhone screen with a lens cleaning cloth, but I don’t think I can do it. That’s the funniest thing I’ve read in ages. If you’re actually serious however, that makes your comment even funnier.

      Pretty much all electronic device screens should be cleaned with a lint free cloth. Tissues, paper towel, etc. RTFM. It’s not rocket science.

      Doesn’t have to be anything special, any glasses cleaner or lens cleaner cloth will do.

      I wear glasses, so I generally have a lens cleaning cloth with me. In fact, in most cases I’d be going more out of my way to find a tissue to wipe the iPhone with rather than using the cloth.

    The microfibre cloth ‘bags’ for sunnies works well. I don’t have screen or back protection so just stick it one of those. Sure I feel like a nancy boy when I remove it from its protective purse, but not one scratch on the whole thing and I get to caress it in its virginal state every time I touch it. I like your approach though Ben, I just can’t live like that.

    I don’t care if you lick iphones, take the special bus or occasionally pee on yourself.

    You hang in there sunshine, you’re special!
