you’re not exaggerating, that was great!

its always baffling that usb ‘DACs’ are really expensive, and have no features that the much cheaper internal creative cards have, but the internal cards have the noise problem… why don’t they do USB ones like they used to!

Even just normal good quality stereo speakers with a good quality track can have you thinking the sound is coming from behind you, some times even better than if you turn on the 5.1 upmixer! those sound bars do probably work pretty well.

normal FM radio coming from my HT receiver plugged into the home’s aerial sounds better than most of my mp3s! its hard to imagine that digital radio would sound much better.

It’s interesting about surround effects from stereo – there have been things like Q Sound which were designed to mess with phase elements to achieve that (used for a Madonna Greatest Hits, whoopee, and something similar on Floyd’s Final Cut and Waters’ Pros & Cons). But I wouldn’t be surprised if we just perceive things that way given a visual cue of a missile flying front to back and audio to match – maybe enough ‘cues’ to make the bran expect rear sound.

With renos running, I have only stereo at present so I hope so!

FM with roof antenna, yes, happiness.
