Modu Modular Phone Now Available Through Mobicity

Wow. If ever there was a concept product I thought was destined to become Vaporware, it would have been the Modu modular mobile phone. Even when it was rumoured to be hitting production, I still thought it would never see the light of day, let alone release in Australia. But I was wrong – Mobicity has become the official Australian distributor for the handset, and it’s available now.

For those who don’t remember, the Modu is a tiny, lightweight handset with a series of interchangeable jackets to customise the features of the phone. Jackets include anything from a music module to a digital photo frame, with some as a few style-oriented jackets thrown in for good measure.

The main Modu handset costs $150, with jackets starting at $50.

It’s certainly a very interesting concept. It’ll be interesting to see whether or not the idea takes off…
