VHA – the result of the recent Vodafone and Three merger in Australia – is either looking for some cheap publicity or sucking up to Apple. Or both, considering this announcement we received yesterday after the iPad announcement:
Vodafone Hutchison Australia (VHA) is very interested in the Apple iPad unveiled in the US today. Vodafone and 3 offer some of Australia’s highest value prepaid and contract mobile broadband plans and the exciting and innovative Apple iPad would be a welcome addition to our product range.
Vodafone Hutchison Australia will soon commence discussions with Apple regarding the availability of the Apple iPad in Australia. The latest news on Vodafone and 3 products and services, including any updates on the possible availability and pricing of the new Apple iPad, will be posted on www.vodafone.com.au and www.three.com.au.
Looks like the bandwagon has its first stowaway…

what’s wrong with Vodafone’s customer service? ‘Lara’ is a friendly and intelligent staff member. Does she ever sleep?

I can only hope the merger will get them working on improving their network. In Sydney, fine, strong signal and good data connectivity most places I tended to be.
However, after moving to Queensland, let me tell you, the Vodafone network is as patchy as hell! And that’s both Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
I catch the train regularly between the GC and BrisVegas, and I can see people having themselves a fine old time looking at websites, and checking and writing email on their notebooks. I’m always curious to see who the ISP is, and let me tell you, it isn’t Vodafone. Otherwise there’d be muttered swearing and exasperated closing of the lid.
And you guessed it, it’s always Telstra 3G being used on the train. Expensive, but wide-reaching!
