PS3 Hacked, Exploit Is Now Available For Your Illicit Pleasure

GeoHot, one of the fathers of the iPhone’s jailbreak community, has just released the exploit that’ll let loose all sorts of promising PS3 hackery, just like he promised. We can’t wait for hackers to unlock the PS3′s power.

Apparently, the hack gives full access to memory and the OS, and definitely works with firmware version 2.4.2 (and presumably other current versions as well). You can find it here for now – try it out, let us know how it works! [GeoHot via Kotaku - Thanks Richard!]

First, if you start fiddling with the software it might not play your existing games.

Second, since 5 per cent of the fix is hardware, you might break it.

Third, and this is a culmination of the two points above, if you do anything like hack it, you’ve automatically voided all of the warranties it came with.

Fourth, if it’s out of warranty but needs to go somewhere for repair, you betcha they’ll take the hack off it and return it in its ‘official’ state.

Not to mention the fact that they older PS3′s let you install Linux on them no problems anyway so not too sure what we get out of this.

        Pirated (or backup) games obviously..
I don’t condone piracy, but this is predominantly what hacking consoles is about (xbmc excluded)
