I don’t know whether to go to an Apple store or the feminine care aisle to purchase an iPad. Oh, don’t groan! You cracked similar jokes. And let’s face it: They’re all kinda lame and won’t bother Steve whatsoever.
There’s no escaping the iTampon, iMaxiPad, iMenstruate quips. Hell, they’re a trending topic on Twitter at this point. But despite adding to the sad mess of pseudo-comedy, I agree with Kara Swisher when she quotes good ol’ Walt Mossberg:
You forget, but they made fun of iPod name when it came out. What matters is the product and what it means to consumers.
So yes, Steve Jobs won’t care about our jokes, nor will they affect the iPad’s chance of being a success. Might as well get them out of our systems now. Bonus points for the first knock-knock iPad joke. [All Things D via John Paczkowski]

Thursday, January 28, 2010 at 1:52 PMYou know what also got blasted like crazy and proved everyone wrong? The Macbook air. Man I hear about that all the time, it just took people and stores a little bit to catch on and stop carrying them entirely.

Thursday, January 28, 2010 at 3:35 PMI’ve been calling it the iFad all morning. Cause I’m sure people will eventually catch on and figure out that it’s useless, just like Netbooks. Not before they’ve sold a billion units to all the Apple Fanbois out there.

Thursday, January 28, 2010 at 9:50 PMiThink that the iPad will sell millions of units and then in a few years when a new one comes out those millions will end up being thrown away because the owner will get the new 1, Just like with iPods. (either that or it will just sit in a draw for years and years like my iPod mini, iPod video.)

Friday, January 29, 2010 at 11:47 PMOf course that will happen Josh, but the comparison can be made to not only all technology, but almost every product ever made, certainly not limited to Apple products.
I think they’ll sell millions not because of Apple Fanbois, they’ll sell millions because they’re winning the evolutionary arms race. They use the success of 1 product and release another new one. Not to mention the affordability of the unit – in my mind i compared this to when i was looking into building up a car pc, as far as the technology, and current market, goes they have put a very affordable price tag on this.
Although i have an iPhone, primarily because i needed an mp3 player and given i was up for a new phone also this catered for both requirements, i’m certainly not an Apple Fanboy – infact i have generally been negative toward the majority of their products, but i’m seriously considering purchasing myself an iPad. An through discussions about the product with people at work, which one would consider the technologically uneducated consumer, who have little to no realisation that there is an arms race, the product for it’s attributes are very enticing. Personally though i would most deffinately await the eventual ‘jailbreak’ of the iPad before looking into the purchase any further.
