In a brief post this morning reminding readers that mobile phone carriers do not necessarily get sneak peeks of Apple’s top-secret products, Daring Fireball’s John Gruber said that his (often reliable) sources suggest that Apple’s tablet will not have any camera.
John Gruber, who has an imperfect but pretty solid track record on these matters, suggests that the Apple’s tablet will not be any sort of videophone game changer, as has been widely speculated. In fact, he hears there won’t be a camera at all:
And, for what it’s worth, I’m hearing there is no camera, webcam or otherwise, on The Tablet.
So if you were looking forward to revolutionising the way you interacted with your friends and family across the globe by holding this thing in front of your face all summer long, you might be disappointed. [Daring Fireball]

Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at 10:38 AMWhat’s this hang-up these days about everything having a camera? It’s a PC for Chrissakes – I wouldn’t be holding that up to take photos anyway… Iphone only has a pissy 3 meg camera anyway -chile most phones these days have 5 – 8 meg.

Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at 12:01 PMPhew. A front-facing camera could have been awkward if I used it on my lap while naked.
A rear camera could have been even worse…

Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at 6:06 PMI am more than anything looking forward to see how much this mythical unicorn will cost. If it is just a shiny tablet running some variant of Mac OSX, it will also be interesting how the fanboys justify it as a worthwhile purchase and what purpose it serves that is not provided by the iPhone or Touch each of them already posess.
