Is Apple’s Magic Mouse An Energy Vampire?

Apple’s sexy, touchy feely Magic Mouse could be an energy sucking vampire, according to a number of reports on the Apple Discussion Boards.

The present hypothesis is that the Magic Mouse is preventing the Bluetooth keyboard from entering sleep mode, resulting in weekly battery changes. One user purportedly contacted Apple Tech Support and was told the problem is a known Bluetooth driver issue and a fix is in the works.

Who here has one of these little energy vampires and what’s your story? Anything? [TUAW]

I have the original slim keyboard (the one that takes 3xAAs)…I’d get, maybe 2 weeks at best.

Prior to that it’d be months between changes.

As a temporary solution…send your computer to sleep if you’re not using it. Or, if you must leave it on, just power off the keyboard. It’l take 2 seconds to power off, 2 to power on, but your battery savings will be much higher than that…

Or just not buy a mac, and get long life out of your batteries. :)

It’s 2010 and we STILL get people who’d rather bag a just for the sake of it rather than offer something constructive… or even funny.

Davo, go find a teen-n00b forum to play on.

I’m a PC user, but I love the new Mac mouse. Much nicer than any others I’ve used. Unfortunately their keyboards aren’t the best for extended typing (I like my Logitech one with the wrist rest) but it all does look very nice..
